Whether it is to prevent or treat disease, surgical procedures are often a necessary part of your pets’s general health care plan. Central Bucks Veterinary Hospital offers advanced anesthetic protocols, effective surgical techniques, and a well-trained veterinary team to ensure the safest procedures are provided for your pet within our dedicated soft tissue surgery suite. We perform many types of surgical procedures, including:

–   Preventative: spay, neuter, gastropexy
–   Treatment: mass removal, bladder stone removal, enucleation, external eye surgeries, vulvoplasty, liver and gastrointestinal biopsies, amputation, aural hematoma repair
–   Emergency: wound repair, foreign body removal, pyometra, cesarean section

Before Surgery

Even with the healthiest patient, we know that any degree of anesthesia has its risks and ensuring your pet has a safe surgical procedure is our utmost priority. Prior to surgery, all of our patients obtain a thorough physical examination and have pre-surgical labwork performed to ensure that they are appropriate surgical and anesthetic candidates and to tailor anesthetics and medications specifically to their needs. We also prescribe medications for your pet to receive the night prior to and morning of their surgery to decrease the amount of anesthesia needed during surgery and decrease the risk of aspiration pneumonia.

During Surgery

During surgery, our patients are tended to in our fully-equipped surgery suite and are carefully monitored by our team. Local anesthetics are additionally used to decrease the amount of general anesthesia that our patients need. Our anesthesia monitoring instruments continually assess our patients’ cardiac and respiratory functions, oxygenation status, blood pressure, and temperature to quickly titrate anesthetics and ensure that the needed care is performed safely.

After Surgery

Following surgery, one of our team members will be with your pet until they are awake and aware. Your pet will wake up on warm blankets and to a caring smile. A member of our team will call you to review the procedure with you and send you home with straightforward aftercare instructions. We will call you within a few days to check on your pet and answer any additional questions.
